Dear friends:
I bid you adieu.
Yes, it is time
to say our fond farewells.
After all,
the train is now
leaving the station.
A distant journey
is on the anvil.
A new chapter will
begin in our lives:
one for you,
one for me.
It is time to
hold our memories
in the palms of
our hands.
It is time
to remember the
good, old days.
Remember:
the sound of laughter,
the ringing of church
bells on Sunday morning,
sharing a home-cooked meal,
and going out to
the theatre or opera,
listening to music,
together, on our hi-fi
stereo system.
Years later,
when we are too old
even to tie our own
shoe-laces, we will
become suddenly nostalgic.
Until then,
please bear with me,
for I have a train to catch.
